How can you imagine the coming 10 years and the rise of machines?
The following is a piece of speculative fiction work,
which might show the way ahead in terms of our future self and how it will
think. It has some fictional characters and settings as well as some things in
reality. If you are reading this story, you are probably thinking about an
imaginary life too or just trying to learn about the world and understand where we
come from.
I am not the author — I can’t see any copyright on this
story, but only say that if you want more information for example, if you want
more specific information like for instance who wrote the story, contact me.
The writer did give me permission to use his/her name, so I think he had a
right to do the rest. Also, the plot did follow my own imagination but didn't
make more sense than that. So the writing belongs to you, if you liked it,
thanks. (In case the real thing doesn’t work out for example because they don’t
work together and have different goals.) The writing belongs to you, also, the
character and setting belong to him. But for now, I am just putting the words in your mind and helping you understand where we might be heading.
If you think about ourselves in ten years, what it is we
would want: A robot lawyer? Or maybe we want more human-like robots. Maybe the
person is still alive, then the machine that represents people was already dead
before people even knew it. This might seem crazy, but maybe not too crazy. For
sure not everyone likes technology. It often becomes part of daily life and
people are used to it. Then when we want something new it can always be quite
hard to get an opinion on it. Just to add or take away. People are used to
getting their opinions from other people. Yes, they are a lot smarter so they
choose what they want to listen to. But when someone asks them for help, they do
need it. They don’t want another smart machine saying “just have your
opinion”. In fact, people are afraid to even ask others. But why should this be
a problem when a robot could help? What do we have to fear? As one can
understand we are all living in the same universe and there is no difference
between us on anything at all. Our job is to live what we believe in and not
question everything. So if we see something wrong or something we just don’t
like, it is up to us to call them names and do whatever we like. Yes, sometimes
someone else has to come and say “stop being stupid and stop annoying” but who
am I to judge? I don’t want to hear that! We live just by the fact that we
don’t need anyone.
We also live in an era of social media. Everyone wants to
stand out or make more friends. I feel a bit ashamed to admit it, but actually, Facebook and Instagram are nothing more than a tool, to create better friends.
Nothing else than posting your status and pictures to show off you to the
world, your hobbies, what you like, how much money you have, etc. No one cares
to talk to each other anymore. Social media is important because it helps
people discover people who have nothing in common. When people are talking to
others about a topic, they usually also have a connection to someone and share
things about themselves. That is enough. Now people post their statuses online
without even having to speak or look at another person because all who wants
is to connect. We need to find those connections, but it's impossible and the
internet is full of fake people doing what they do best. Even if you have lots
of connections, you have nothing much to offer others. There are thousands of
fake accounts. Someone could be watching your picture, looking at the comments
on it. He can see how much effort you put into creating a beautiful masterpiece
or a charming personality and he can see you as your body and personality. Why
wouldn’t you want to look good? Well, there are millions of photos, and users on
Instagram are searching not for anything other than themselves, but for
somebody else’s approval. You want to become accepted in society, but you can
never. We have to hide behind that mask. We have to pretend to care about our
life and about the world around us and the time will come when the computer
will be no longer needed. Only some people can manage to keep up with the
pressure. People like the idea of technology taking over. Others want to stay
the way they were. This does not mean that we are going to lose humanity or
forget about all the good stories in history. People will remain intelligent.
Not so fast. Those will be replaced by robots capable of analyzing data quickly
and correctly. Everything will change, but for now, I am not scared! We are not
helpless. We are strong. We do not know how much the past affects the future.
People are doing things and thinking things that nobody understands why they
are doing it. But we have a chance to influence them. We also have the freedom
to make mistakes. Mistakes are very hard to avoid. And yet it can also be done.
We can change how to become as we always wanted to be or not to be how we
always wanted to be. Will we be happy then? Perhaps we will find happiness in a
place we will never find.
Let’s change the environment that makes us happy. Let’s
change the places we go to find happiness. Let’s change the people we meet even
if they do make us sad. Let us change the paths in front of us to reach
everything we wanted. One day we can think about coming up instead of staying
here.
